If you have ever wondered about how Goss China came to be so popular... about the lives of the family who produced it... and about how the porcelain was manufactured and sold - then this volume will be fascinating for you. It contains many old photographs of the Gosses at work and play.
William Henry Goss and his eldest son Adolphus met the demand for inexpensive holiday souvenirs with a range of small white porcelain models of historic shapes decorated with coats of arms. These immediately caught on and by 1910 the craze was at its height. It is thought that during Edwardian times most homes contained Goss china. The hobby reached a peak around 1914, but trade declined after the Great War and by 1939 production ceased altogether. The nation then spent the next 30 years throwing Goss china away before it regained respectability and began to be collected again in the 1970's.
